Gun Rights
Gun rights in the United States refers to the second amendment right to keep and bare arms. This constitutional right has sparked up much needed debate over the years in American history. People on the side of pro gun rights believe that people should be allowed to keep and carry guns at anytime. Opposition of that view believe that every citizen should not be eligible to carry a gun, due to many different factors. This stance is often reached in support of safety regulations that offer a clear cut way to avoid criminal activity and fatality. Statistics show that those given gun rights are often given them illegally. Specifically meaning that criminals and or dangerous individuals took advantage of the leniency given to distributors in most states due to pro gun rights.
The right to keep and bare arms simply means that every citizen deserves the opportunity to defend themselves. This right to defend oneself is an example of pro gun rights. However, opposition believes that convicted felons, children, mentally impaired, and dangerous individuals should not be awarded this right. The basis for judgment under gun rights, is currently left up to the judges discretion. Civilians are not supposed to use guns for any other reason than self defense or sport. By sport, pro gun rights outline hunting as a constitute. For example in some states gun rights are given to children under the legal age for possession, if they are hunting with their parent or guardian. In these cases the law is bended to support participation in the sport. However, these children are not allowed to own the gun themselves, they may obtain a permit in order to use a gun. Once they turn the legal age, they may benefit off of their gun rights.
Gun rights for military personnel is much different than that of a civilian. The right to bare arms was used exclusively to demonstrate the purpose of guns in the military. Military personnel were expected to fight diligently with these weapons to protect the freedoms of the United States. However, overtime, the law was worked into the Constitution for citizens to take part in. Military are allowed to carry guns because they are properly trained on how to use them. However, if they suffer from mental impairment after service, they under state laws forfeit gun rights until they are stable. Although this is law, it is often overlooked due to the service these individuals provide for the country.
Interest groups throughout the United States have mad pro gun rights an issue in politics. The National Rifle Association is the most common group used in debates about pro gun rights. They are firm believers of the second amendment and argue that federal regulations violate it. In addition, this interest group argues that when citizens carry guns, they deter crime more than if they do not. Statistics have proven that citizens that are responsible when using guns, they work against the crime rate. Some other groups of pro gun rights include, the Gun Owners of America and The Citizens Committee For The Right To Keep and Bare Arms. On the contrary, gun rights oppositions are represented by the Brady Campaign, which works to regulate the number of guns on the streets.
